I've had a detector sent to me for updating, and the serial number has completely gone, but the area where the serial number was and the plate are all intact, and you can't really tell anything looks unusual. It appears that the serial number printed on the serial plate on the bottom of the detector can be removed using some kind of solvent. Something that has come to my attention today.
